Product Spotlight: Space Keeper

They say that space is black, dark and sombre but in Space Keeper it's more like a heavenly and celestial place where you can float, relax and not care about anything in the universe beside your own comfort then you realize you have to save your planet and you are the only person fit for the job.

More after the jump

So basically mankind in 2312 has run into a bit of a rut, its energy resources have all but gone but the aptly named Space Keeper Alliance has found a new energy source they then hurl these energy sources into wormholes as a mode of delivery. Now as a person who has watched the entirety of Star Trek: The Next Generation series way too many times I cannot stress how great that concept is.

Space Keeper is a puzzle game where in its most basic form involves the player taking colored spheres of energy and then placing them in a similarly colored wormhole However the game keeps things fresh by keeping the player on his/her toes by throwing in obstacles such as spikes, asteroid fields and this one annoying thing that snatches your energy spheres away.

The game rewards creativity and I as a gamer love that. It starts off easily enough by bouncing the energy off bouncy surfaces (as can be seen above) to score a multiplier. I then was able to bounce the energy off more than one wall and score even more and as the levels progressed the obstacles became harder and the demand for creativity in completing the level was increased was increased.

I found myself linking up the balls of energy through the use of multi barbed connectors (as can be seen in the above picture) to get a massive score chain and this chain can multiplied as carefully bouncing it on the aforementioned space bouncy wall.

The one thing I love about this game is that it does not treat the gamer like an idiot, the game gives him/her the appropriate tools to score well in the level and the gamers in turn must use these tools to escort their spheres of energy to their wormhole while avoiding the obstacles. I have always admired games that care for the intellect of the gamer and this game is a prime example.

Add to that the game has a soothing soundtrack to try and calm you in the fits of rage that you may have in the course of the level (those hurtling asteroids can be hell on your score chain) and all in all the game does look good.

This game also boasts leaderboards and achievements that just add to the life span of the game.

So far I have tried the beta on an Android powered tablet and I wish the best for indy developer Codaweb Interactive on its full release on the 12th of December 2012.
